Transits show you where the planets are now and how they are touching your natal chart. Secondary progressions are different: they show how your natal chart itself is changing over time.

The system works on a simple ratio. Every day after your birth corresponds to one year of your life. So your chart progressed to age thirty looks like your natal chart shifted thirty days forward in the ephemeris. The planets have moved, aspects have formed and separated, and the progressed chart describes a version of you that is genuinely different from the newborn chart, in ways that reflect your actual development.

What progressions show

Progressions describe internal evolution rather than external events. They show how your character, values, and fundamental orientation shift over a lifetime. When a natal planet changes sign by progression, something essential about how you express that planetary energy shifts.

Progressed Sun changing signs, which happens roughly every thirty years, is one of the most significant progressions in a chart. It describes a fundamental shift in identity and orientation. Someone born with the Sun in Taurus whose progressed Sun moves into Gemini in their late twenties often describes a genuine shift in how they relate to life, a quickening, a growing need for variety and communication that was not as present before.

The progressed Moon

The progressed Moon is the fastest-moving point in the progressed chart, changing signs roughly every two and a half years. It describes the emotional themes and developmental focus of each two-and-a-half-year chapter.

Progressed Moon through the fourth house typically brings a period focused on home, family, and inner life. Progressed Moon through the tenth house brings career and public life into emotional focus. Knowing which house your progressed Moon is moving through gives you a sense of what chapter you are currently in.

Progressed aspects

When progressed planets form exact aspects to natal planets, significant internal shifts tend to occur. Progressed Venus conjuncting your natal Sun might coincide with a period of greater self-appreciation, creative flourishing, or romantic opening. Progressed Saturn squaring your natal Moon describes a more difficult period of emotional maturation, restriction, or loss that demands seriousness.

These aspects form slowly and separate slowly, but when exact, they often mark real turning points in how a person sees themselves and the world.

Progressions work best alongside transits, not as a replacement. They give you a sense of the longer developmental arc, the inner story that is unfolding over years and decades, while transits describe the more immediate prompts and events.

Together, they give you a richer picture than either alone.
