What is a natal birth chart?
A natal chart is a map of the sky at the exact moment and location you were born. Every planet was somewhere, in a sign, in a house, at a particular degree. Astrology uses these positions as a symbolic framework for understanding character, timing, and tendency. The chart does not predict what will happen; it describes the terrain you were born into and the patterns that show up repeatedly in how you move through life.
The chart has three main layers. The planets represent different psychological functions , the Sun is identity, the Moon is emotion, Venus is love and value, Mars is drive. The signs they occupy color how those functions operate, a Scorpio Mars pursues differently than an Aries Mars. The houses show which life domain is activated, Venus in the 2nd house relates to money and material comfort; Venus in the 7th relates to partnership.
Reading a chart well means understanding all three layers simultaneously, including the aspects, the angular relationships between planets that create tension, support, or emphasis between different parts of the personality. This is why a real reading goes far beyond knowing your sun sign.
