Venus retrograde 2025: what actually happens to your love life (and what does not)
Venus went retrograde in Aries in early 2025 and had everyone convinced their relationships were doomed. Some were. Most were not. Here is what Venus retrograde genuinely disrupts and what it does not touch.
If 2025 felt like your love life went into slow motion, or everything you thought was settled suddenly wasn't, you weren't imagining it. Venus retrograde in Aries ran from March 1 through April 12, and the shadow period stretched several weeks on either side.
But not everything that happened during that time was because of it.
What Venus actually rules
Venus governs love, attraction, beauty, values, money, and pleasure. It's also the planet of self-worth, which is the piece most people forget when they focus only on the relationship angle.
When Venus is direct, its energy flows outward: you pursue what you want, express what you feel, and receive what's offered relatively naturally. When it goes retrograde, that energy turns inward. The way you give and receive love becomes less automatic and more examined.
What retrograde in Aries specifically did
Aries is direct, self-focused, and impulsive. Venus in Aries already creates tension between wanting connection and wanting independence. Venus retrograde in Aries turned that tension into a full question: are your relationships built on mutual desire, or on habit and fear of change?
For some people, that question confirmed what they already had. For others, it didn't.
Who felt it hardest
People with significant Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn placements felt the 2025 retrograde most directly. If your natal Venus is in Aries, or if Venus rules your rising sign (Taurus or Libra), you likely noticed it more than most.
If none of those apply and 2025 was still chaotic in your relationships, something else in your chart was doing that. Venus retrograde gets blamed for a lot it didn't cause.
The money angle that gets overlooked
Venus rules finances too. Retrograde periods often coincide with reassessing how you earn, spend, and relate to financial security. Contracts signed during Venus retrograde sometimes need renegotiating later. Impulsive purchases during this window have a higher-than-usual return rate.
The next one
Venus goes retrograde again in late 2026. The pattern is consistent: the period works better for reassessment than for new beginnings in the areas Venus governs. If you're already sensing complications in a relationship when the retrograde hits, the retrograde tends to amplify them, not smooth them over.
Knowing when it's coming gives you a chance to choose your timing more deliberately.
